Shared passion
Shared passions sneak into our lives because we can't keep them out.
I had this great hallway conversation at the Summit with Val Reinke, a UX manager from Travelocity (they’re hiring!). Rather than the normal polite conference small-talk (who are you, where you from, what do you do) we talked about what we were passionate about.
I discovered I’m passionate about two things. At work, I’m passionate about doing things the right way. But, in general, I’m passionate about music. I’m really most passionate about music.
Val’s passionate about environmental issues. And, she mentioned that she shared these passions with her husband. I thought this was pretty cool, because I didn’t think many couples were passionate about the same things like that. And then it struck me: Debbi’s most passionate about music.
We don’t talk about it all the time, work on it all the time, and it doesn’t consume our life together, but were you to ask her, she’d tell you music is the most important thing in the world.
Thankfully she met me so I can show what good music really is.
Given this minor epiphany, perhaps Debbi and I should reprioritize things so our love of music really is driving more of our lives.
