Designing the Seattle Public Library
Libraries are the kind of obvious intersections of culture, media, and use that highlight the work at which information architects excel.
Libraries are the kind of obvious intersections of culture, media, and use that highlight the work at which information architects excel. So, I am interested in the IDEA Conference presentation by the Seattle Public Library’s, Debrah Jacobs.
As a kind of serendipitous teaser, TED’s released a fascinating Talk by architect, Joshua Prince-Ramus, on how constraints fueled the innovative design of the Seattle Public Library. Also discusses how their same process effected the designs of a theatre in Dallas and Contemporary Arts Musuem in Louisville.
The IDEA Conference has linked to the Seattle Public Library’s “Design Information”. I haven’t had a chance to give it a close look, but the concept book looks like it could be really neat.
